Education
girls
Educating girls in India is a powerful tool for transforming lives and communities. It equips girls with skills, career opportunities, and independence. An educated girl is more likely to delay marriage, make informed decisions about her health and that of her family, and break the cycle of poverty. Educating girls is an investment in a more equal society, where every child has the chance to dream and build a better future.
L'autonomisation des femmes
In Indian culture, girls are often seen as valuable helpers at home and are married off early, making them dependent, vulnerable to violence and perpetuating the cycle of poverty. Providing quality education to these girls is essential to enable them to access the job market, increase their autonomy and break this vicious cycle, thereby contributing to effectively combating poverty.
Legality
With over 5 million inhabitants, Pune is India’s economic capital, but it also illustrates the country’s deep social inequalities. Although India has one of the highest economic growth rates in the world, a large part of its population remains disadvantaged, a consequence of a trajectory marked by economic growth without real social development. Education is theoretically compulsory for all children aged 6 to 14, but the reality is very different, especially for girls. In disadvantaged families, parents often favour the education of boys, leaving girls on the sidelines of the education system and thus perpetuating the cycle of inequality.

Although school is compulsory in India for all children between the ages of 6 and 14, there is a big gap between the will enshrined in law and the reality of the situation.
If the number of girls not attending school in India constituted a country, it would be the 10th largest country in the world!
