In India, millions of girls do not go to school… This is not because of their abilities, of course, but because priority is given to boys, as girls are expected to carry out domestic chores or go to work from a very young age to earn money for the family. Poverty, early marriage, a lack of suitable infrastructures and certain traditions further exacerbate this inequality.
In 2018, Catherine Bonvin, a teacher from Switzerland, met Agnell Pilay, a PE teacher who grew up in an orphanage. From this meeting sprang a somewhat crazy dream: to open a school so that girls from the slums could have access to education. Thanks to their determination, the Rayon of Aasha charity opened its first class in 2023 and a second in 2025… In Pune, young girls can look forward to a better future.
